Saprobic on culms of saltmarsh plant Juncus roemerianus Scheele in marine habitats. Sexual morph: Ascomata dark brown, arising singly, immersed, subglobose, ostiolate, with a long periphysate neck. Peridium formed from cells of textura angularis. Hamathecium containing tapering, simple, septate, hyaline paraphyses. Asci 8-spored, cylindrical, pedicellate, with a bipartite, IKI positive, apical ring. Ascospores hyaline, uniseriate, unicellular, ellipsoidal, verruculose, without appendages. Asexual morph: Undetermined (adapted from Maharachchikumbura et al. 2016).

Notes: Kohlmeyer & Volkmann-Kohlmeyer (1993) established the monotypic genus Papulosa but were unable to place this genus with certainty into any order or family.
