Auratiopycnidiella Crous & Summerell [as 'Aurantiopycnidiella'], in Crous, Summerell, Alfenas, Edwards, Pascoe, Porter & Groenewald, Persoonia 28: 69 (2012)
Diaporthomycetidae, Diaporthales, Auratiopycnidiellaceae, Auratiopycnidiella
Index Fungorum number: IF564733; FoF number: FoF 08842; 1 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2020); 1 species with sequence data.
Foliicolous. Sexual morph: Undetermined. Asexual morph: Conidiomata amphigenous, pycnidial, globose, orange-coloured with dark brown border on leaves. Peridium comprising pale brown cells of textura angularis. Paraphyses hyaline, subcylindrical, septate, branched or unbranched, with obtuse apex, constricted at septa. Conidiophores reduced to conidiogenous cells. Conidiogenous cells hyaline, annellidic, smooth, ampulliform, with terminal truncate locus, thick-walled, sometimes proliferating percurrently. Conidia ellipsoidal, smooth, solitary, median 1-septate, constricted at septum, obtuse at apex, truncate at base, thickened, at times with marginal frill, becoming golden brown at germination and with solitary, brown, wavy, thick, bright banded, germ-slit along the long-axis of the conidium (adapted from Senanayake et al. 2017).
Type species: Auratiopycnidiella tristaniopsidis Crous & Summerell [as 'tristaniopsis'], in Crous, Summerell, Alfenas, Edwards, Pascoe, Porter & Groenewald, Persoonia 28: 69 (2012)
Notes: Auratiopycnidiella is monotypic, comprising solely the type species A. tristaniopsis. This taxon shows similarity to taxa of Cryphonectriaceae in having orange conidiomata. However, Auratiopycnidiella is distinct from other genera of Diaporthales in having subepidermal, pycnidial, orange conidiomata with dark brown margins, holoblastic to annellidic conidiogenous cells, ellipsoid and uni-septate conidia with a thickened hilum or minute marginal frill. Conidia become brown at germination, forming a thin, wavy germ slit, 90° to the long axis of the conidium (Crous et al. 2012).
