Anthonectria Döbbeler, Mycologia 102(2): 405 (2010)

Hypocreomycetidae, Hypocreales, Bionectriaceae, Anthonectria

Index Fungorum number: IF 514117; Facesoffungi number: FoF 10855; 1 morphological species

Bryophilous, hyperepiphyllous; parasitic on Drepanolejeunea sp. Hyphae hyaline, thick-, faintly cyanophilous walled. Sexual morph: Ascomata perithecial, astromatic, perforating through the host perianth, globose to pyriform, pale to golden-yellow or pale orange, without setae, KOH-. Ostioles indefinite, punctiform, periphysate. Periphyses filamentous. Excipulum 20–30 μm, consisting of irregular, thick-walled hyphae. Apical paraphyses inconspicuous. Asci (6-, 7-) 8-spored, unitunicate, varying form, more or less cylindrical, without an apical ring. Ascospores uni- or partly biseriate, hyaline, composed of inner fertile cell and outer sterile cell; fertile cell, smaller, 2.5–4 mm diam., ellipsoid to subglobose, sterile cell larger, 6–9 mm diam., subglobose to globose or rarely lunate, wall slightly cyanophilous. Asexual morph: Conidiomata 25 μm high, pulvinate. Conidiogenous cells cylindrical. Conidia 1–1.5 μm diam., globose, hyaline (copied from Perera et al. 2023).

Type species: Anthonectria mammispora Döbbeler, Mycologia 102(2): 405 (2010)

Notes: Döbbeler (2010) introduced the monotypic genus Anthonectria to accommodate A. mammispora and classified Anthonectria in Bionectriaceae. Anthonectria resembles Bionectriaceae by its pale-coloured, astromatic perithecia without a KOH reaction (Döbbeler 2010). No DNA sequence data are available and the placement of the genus needs verifying (copied from Perera et al. 2023).
