Saprobic on drift wood. Sexual morph: Ascomata 340–400 μm high, 260–320 μm in diam., subglobose, totally immersed in the substrate, ostiolate, periphysate, epapillate, clypeate, coriaceous, black, intimately connected with heavily decomposed wood particles, solitary. Ostiolar canal conical, filled with periphyses. Clypeus black, surrounding the ostiole, enclosing deteriorating host cells. Peridium 12–16 μm wide, hyaline, composed of 5–8 layers of cells with narrow lumina. Paraphyses 1–2 μm wide, numerous, filiform, septate, branched, hyaline, considerably longer, embedded in a gelatinous matrix, between and above the asci, merging with periphyses in the ostiolar canal. Asci 85–100 × 12–18 μm (x̅ = 96 × 14 μm, n = 10), 8-pored, cylindrical clavate, apex obtuse, nonamyloid, short-pedicellate, thin-walled. Ascospores 12–20 × 6–9 μm (x̅ = 96 × 14 μm, n = 30) 1–2-seriate, ellipsoid, 1-septate in the middle, hyaline, with granulate cells, smooth. Asexual morph: Undetermined.
