Acrodictys

Acrodictys M.B. Ellis, Mycol. Pap. 79: 5 (1961)

Sordariomycetes families incertae sedis, Acrodictyaceae, Acrodictys

Index Fungorum number: IF 7034; 25 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2020); 10 species with sequence data (Luo et al. 2019)

Saprobic on woody substrates. Asexual morph: Colonies on host efuse, superficial, velvety or hairy, black. Mycelium usually immersed, comprises pale brown, septate, branched, smooth hyphae. Conidiophores macronematous, mononematous, generally indeterminate, erect, straight or flexuous, often with a bulbous base, thick-walled, smooth, proliferating percurrently. Conidiogenous cells monoblastic, integrated, terminal. Conidia acrogenous, solitary, obovoid to pyriform, pale or mid brown at the base to dark blackish brown toward the apex,  muriform, with transverse septa generally spanning the whole width of conidia, longitudinal septa short and incomplete, with a narrowly truncate base, smooth, with schizolytic secession. Sexual morph: Undetermined (adapted from Xia et al. 2017).

Type species: Acrodictys bambusicola M.B. Ellis, Mycol. Pap. 79: 6 (1961)

Notes: Ellis (1961) introduced Acrodictys, typified by A. bambusicola. Baker et al. (2002) reviewed the status of Acrodictys and refined the generic concept in a stricter sense. Based on the narrower concept, some species were excluded from Acrodictys and transferred to new genera, for example, Junewangia, Rhexoacrodictys, Pseudoacrodictys and Ramoacrodictys (Baker et al. 2002, Baker & Morgan-Jones 2003, Zhao et al. 2009). Seifert et al. (2011) provided a taxonomic key to Acrodictys and similar genera.

Species illustrated in this entry:

Acrodictys aquatica (N.G. Liu & K.D. Hyde) Z.L. Luo & K.D. Hyde
