Dictyosporella

Dictyosporella Abdel-Aziz, in Ariyawansa et al., Fungal Diversity: 10.1007/s13225-015-0346-5, [117] (2015)

Sordariomycetes families incertae sedis, Junewangiaceae, Dictyosporella

Index Fungorum number: IF551480; Facesoffungi number: FoF 00973; 3 morphological species (Species Fungorum 2021); 3 species with sequence data.

Saprobic on substrates in freshwater habitat. Sexual morph: Ascomata solitary, scattered, immersed with neck protruding through host surface, uniloculate, globose, subglobose or ellipsoidal, brown, coriaceous, glabrous, ostiolate. Ostioles long, cylindrical, periphysate. Peridium consisting of many layers of brown, thick-walled, compressed cells of textura porrecta. Paraphyses abundant, persistent, hyaline, cylindrical, septate, unbranched. Asci 8-spored, unitunicate, long cylindrical, tapering at the pedicel, rounded at the apex, with an indistinct, J-, apical ring. Ascospores uniseriate to overlapping uniseriate, hyaline, fusiform, 3-septate, with filamentous bipolar appendages. Asexual morph: Mycelium immersed in the substrate or superficial, comprising smooth, branched, yellow-brown to brown, septate hyphae. Conidiophores reduced. Conidiogenous cells holoblastic. Conidia unicellular, brown to dark brown or black, globose or subglobose, helicoid when immature and rapidly becoming a mass of cells, terminal and lateral, determinate, with rounded or truncate base (adapted from Ariyawansa et al. 2015, Zhang et al. 2017).

Type species: Dictyosporella aquatica Abdel-Aziz, in Ariyawansa et al., Fungal Diversity: 10.1007/s13225-015-0346-5, [119] (2015)

Notes: Dictyosporella was introduced by Ariyawansa et al. (2015) to accommodate an asexual morph species, D. aquatica, which is characterized by micronematous conidiophores and brown to black, muriform conidia. Based on phylogenetic analyses of LSU sequence data, Dictyosporella was assigned to Annulatascaceae (Ariyawansa et al. 2015). Zhang et al. (2017) introduced a sexual morph species, D. thailandensis, and treated Dictyosporella as Diaporthomycetidae, genera incertae sedis. Luo et al. (2019) transferred Dictyosporella to Junewangiaceae based on multi-gene phylogenetic analyses.
