Saprobic on dead plant materials. Stromata generally present. Ascomata immersed under clypeus, visible as raised, dark circular spots on stroma, uniloculate, centrally ostiolate. Ostiole periphysate. Peridium brown, comprising thin-walled elongate cells at the sides and thick-walled cells of textura epidermoidea. Paraphyses unbranched, septate, tapering towards the apices. Asci 8-spored, unitunicate, with a short pedicel, thin-walled, cylindrical, with a J-, refractive apical ring. Ascospores uniseriate, hyaline, ellipsoidal, unicellular, surrounded by a mucilaginous sheath. Asexual morph: Undetermined (adapted from Hyde 1992).

Notes: Frondicola tunitricuspis, the type species of this genus, was found on decaying fronds of Nypa fruticans (Arecaceae). Frondicola has solitary ascomata, visible as dark, raised, circular spots with central ostiolar dots, immersed under a clypeus, cylindrical asci with J-, apical ring and hyaline, unicellular, ellipsoidal ascospores with a mucilaginous sheath (Hyde 1992).
